Abstract Japan has been at the forefront of global efforts to accelerate climate change mitigation. Japanese firms have led in development decarbonization technologies and positively disclosed change‐related information based on Task Force Climate‐related Financial Disclosures recommendations address change. We explore relationship between corporate mitigation actions cost capital for 2100 listed companies from 2017 2021. The results reveal that a higher carbon intensity correlates with an increased equity, debt, weighted average capital. Interestingly, although climate‐related disclosure is associated it concurrently lowers equity overall This research recommends strategic approaches reduce their costs while proactively combating change, highlighting divergent responses bond markets initiatives.
