Abstract High‐performance polymer fibers, commonly used as reinforced have garnered significant attention across various scientific and industrial domains due to their extremely high tensile strength excellent toughness. Notably, poly( p ‐phenylene‐2,6‐benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers are hailed the most advanced high‐performance of twenty‐first century, known for exceptional mechanical properties, outstanding thermal stability, flame retardancy, chemical resistance, attracting considerable favor from researchers. This review provides a comprehensive overview structure PBO two synthesis methods polymers, detailing properties offer valuable references researchers in this area. highlights techniques modifying fibers. Conventional can easily damage resulting difficulties achieving ideal corresponding composites. Surface coating modification improve surface roughness reactivity without compromising structure. Additionally, enhancement interfacial compatibility fiber‐reinforced composites via introducing compatibilizers is analyzed detail. Finally, challenges future prospects also discussed. paper aims provide theoretical guidance fabricating enhancing bonding with resin matrices, thereby increasing potential applications. Highlights Structures presented. Recent advances reviewed. Scientific problems improving proposed. Limitations, challenges, development trends prospected.
