As the core for energy conversion in pumped storage plants, pump turbine is also a key component process of building clean power grid, owing to its fast and accurate load regulation. This paper introduces current status research development turbines from perspectives significance, design optimization, operational performance, advanced methods, etc. Internal external characteristics such as transient flow evolution, structural vibration, flow-induced noise, etc., not only reflect performance (hydraulic, cavitation, sediment abrasion, stability etc.) but directly affect safe efficient operation system. It worth mentioning that space-time evolution internal an emerging direction, results which can be used predict conditions turbines. Moreover, application intelligent condition monitoring fault diagnosis aim prevent failures accidents plants.

ABSTRACT This study examines the behavior of solid–liquid two‐phase flow within runner Francis‐99 turbine. Numerical simulations were carried out by Ansys Fluent software using Mixture multiphase model along with Realizable k‐ε turbulence to analyze in turbine runner. The sediment distribution on surface was evaluated for different concentrations (SC = 500, 1500, 2500, 5000, 8000, and 11,500 ppm). results indicate that particles primarily adhere surfaces blades, displaying a uniform distribution. With increasing concentration, volume fraction blade rises significantly. both long short blades exhibits similarity, peak concentration observed at trailing edge mid‐sections blades. The vortex structures in a draft tube of Francis turbine are confused, primarily when cavitation occurs, which may induce severe vibration and noise.Understanding this vortex's periodical precession investigating the rope influence cone is required for stable operation at off-design conditions.This study captured cavitating flow with high accuracy by utilizing SST turbulence ZGB models.The Omega Liutex methods employed compared traditional Q -criterion to determine behavior Francis-99 tube.The result showed that Liutex/Rortex method advantageous over representing structure.The can effectively remove boundary layer's on visual from tube's wall.Moreover, local hydraulic loss distribution was clarified using entropy production.By comparing magnitude production rate, effects were significantly illuminated.
