The present study investigates the impact of varying concentrations PVC microplastics (PVC–MPs) – specifically 0 (no PVC–MPs), 2, and 4 mg L− 1 –alongside different arsenic (As) levels As), 150, 300 kg− in soil, with concurrent application copper oxide–nanoparticles (CuO–NPs) at CuO –NPs), 25 50 µg mL− to barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants. In recent years, the use of priming agents, such as silicon, melatonin, salicylic acid, glycine betaine, and ascorbic acid has gained significant attention for their role in mitigating abiotic stresses across various plant species. While previous research been conducted on individual impact metal stress resistance among crop species, combined effects context heavy stressed conditions remain underexplored. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings was grown under toxic concentration copper (Cu) i.e., 100 µM which were applied with hydroponic 21 days. The outcomes indicated that Cu nutrient solution notably reduced growth biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes. However, also induced oxidative plants by increasing malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) increased compounds enzymatic non-enzymatic antioxidants, health risk index (HRI) gene expression sugar content. Rice is a globally important food crop which sensitive to the presence of metalloid, arsenic (As). There limited research pertaining identifying relevant As-tolerant rice germplasm in adaptive breeding initiatives, despite fact that As contamination has long been known. In the current industrial scenario, vanadium (V) as a metal is of great importance but poses major threat to ecosystem. present study, effect toxic concentration V, i.e., 10 µM in soil on growth, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange characteristics, oxidative stress biomarkers, antioxidants machinery (enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants), ions uptake, proline metabolism, V uptake different parts plant was investigated with without exogenous application selenium (Se) 5 V-stressed rice (Oryza sativa L.). Our results depicted that addition significantly (P < 0.05) decreased growth biomass, attributes, minerals by O. compared plants grown V. However, toxicity boosted production reactive oxygen species (ROS) increasing contents malondialdehyde (MDA), which indication also manifested hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) membrane-bounded organelles. Although activities various antioxidative enzymes like superoxidase dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate (APX) their gene expression Fe-SOD, POD, CAT, APX phenolic, flavonoid, ascorbic acid, anthocyanin metabolism proline, pyrroline5-carboxylate, pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase, dehydrogenase were increased due stress. illustrated Se seedlings antioxidant capacity and, thus, improved seedlings, those not artificially supplied Se. Research findings, therefore, suggested can ameliorate result composition under balanced exudation nutrient effluxes. This study provides novel insights into role mitigating vanadium-induced rice, thereby offering promising approach enhancing crop resilience metal-contaminated soils advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
