Biochar has gained considerable attention as a sustainable soil amendment due to its potential enhance fertility and mitigate nitrogen (N) losses. This study aimed investigate the effects of biochar application on abundance key N-cycling genes in Mollisol alkaline soils, focusing nitrification (AOA, AOB, nxrB) denitrification (narG, norB, nosZ) processes. The experiment was conducted using soybean rhizosphere soil. results demonstrated that significantly altered microbial community structure by modulating these functional genes. Specifically, reduced narG nosZ both types, indicating reduction N2O emissions. In contrast, it promoted nxrB, particularly suggesting enhanced nitrite oxidation. also revealed strong correlations between gene abundances properties such pH, EC (electrical conductivity. improved pH nutrient availability, creating favorable conditions for AOB Nitrospira populations, which play roles ammonia Additionally, norB/nosZ ratios biochar-treated soils suggests shift towards more efficient reduction. These findings highlight biochar’s dual role enhancing mitigating greenhouse gas emissions soils. provide valuable insights into management agricultural through application, emphasizing optimize nitrogen-cycling processes improve health. Further research is needed explore long-term impacts communities under field conditions.
