The rapid expansion of refugee settlements has caused significant environmental changes, particularly in regions experiencing forced displacement. Rohingya crisis Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, led to extensive deforestation and land transformation, affecting local climate conditions. While urbanization’s impact on surface temperature (LST) is well-documented, the consequences unplanned remain understudied. This study investigates cover changes LST dynamics from 2013 2024, offering a novel perspective refugee-induced changes. Using Landsat 8 imagery, four key categories (built-up, mixed forest, water bodies, barren land) were classified through Support Vector Machine (SVM) approach. temporal change these was examined. product (Band 10) Collection 2 Level (C2 L2) applied derive LST, while Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Water (NDWI), Built-up (NDBI) used assess vegetation urbanization trends. Findings reveal 97% decline forest 161.78% increase built-up areas between 2018, leading substantial increases. Statistical analyses confirm strong correlations multispectral indices, with bodies acting as cooling agents, urban amplify heat stress. underscores urgent need for sustainable management reforestation efforts mitigate degradation. It also highlights importance global cooperation balancing humanitarian needs sustainability, providing insights policymakers planners enhance resilience vulnerable regions.
