ABSTRACT Ensuring the availability of high-quality water is a critical challenge. This study evaluates groundwater quality in Palar basin, Tamil Nadu, India, during 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003, 2013, and 2022, focusing on pre- post-monsoon seasons. Key irrigation indices – sodium absorption ratio (SAR), residual carbonate (RSC), percentage (Na%), permeability index (PI), magnesium hazard (MH), Kelly's (KR), potential salinity (PS) were assessed using parameters such as calcium (Ca), (Mg), chlorine (Cl), potassium (K), sulfate (SO4). pH, electrical conductivity (EC), SAR, Na%, RSC, MH, (WQI) showed significant spatial temporal variability. EC ranged from 250 to >3,000 μS/cm, with industrial hotspots like Ranipet exhibiting high levels. SAR was mostly ‘excellent’ (0–10) but exceeded 18 indicating unsuitability. Na% values >60% degraded soil permeability, while RSC MH thresholds near zones, impairing quality. WQI classified most samples ‘none’ ‘slight,’ >450 posed consumption risks. Seasonal variations runoff effects, increasing Na SO4. GIS mapping statistical analyses highlighted contamination hotspots. Mitigation requires stricter regulations, improved wastewater treatment, recharge, sustainable agriculture ensure long-term

Bu çalışmanın amacı Niğde kent merkezinin üzerinde yer aldığı alüvyon akiferin yeraltısuyu kalitesinin ve kullanım olanaklarının belirlenmesidir. Yapılan çalışmada, yeraltısuları ulusal uluslararası standartlar yardımıyla içme kullanma suyu; Elektriksel İletkenlik (EC), Toplam Sertlik (TH); Sodyum Adsorbsiyon Oranı (SAR); Yüzdesi (%Na); Magnezyum (MR); Kalıntı Karbonat (RSC); Kelly İndisi (KI), Permeabilite (PI) tarımsal sulama Langier Doygunluk (LI), Larson-Skold (LS), Ryznar Stabilite (RSI), Puckorius Kabuklaşma (PSI), Agresiflik (AI), Klorür Sülfat Kütle (CSMR) mineral doygunluk indisleri da endüstriyel amaçlı suyu bakımından değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma alanındaki suların genel olarak sulamaya uygun kalitede sular olduğu, içme-kullanma ise alüvyonun orta kısmında kirlilik, mansap kısmına doğru jeotermal sularla karışım sonucu kirlilik saptanmıştır. Akiferin beslenme bölgesinde yeraltısuyunda düşük iyon içeriğine rağmen, akışkan karışımın etkin olduğu bölgede pH yüksek yükü nedeniyle yeraltısularının kullanıma olmadığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
