Abstract Background Prosocial behaviour can promote positive social interactions and it is a key skill in adolescence. People with emotional problems or psychiatric disorders, such as people eating disorders might have impairments prosocial behaviour, due to broader documented difficulties underlying processes (e.g., mentalizing). Methods The aim of this study was examine adolescents compared healthy controls, using computerised behavioural task. Adolescents ( N = 123) including patients n 61) 62) played four-player Cyberball Game three pre-programmed avatar players. During the task, participants witnessed exclusion one players, subsequently had opportunity compensate for by throwing ball more often excluded player. Throughout game, rated level negative emotion themselves Results Patients made significantly fewer tosses towards player during compensation round controls (large effect size). reported smaller increase after witnessing decrease following sizes). also estimated (medium There were no significant associations between these outcomes disorder psychopathology patients. Conclusions Compared adolescents, adolescent demonstrated less compensatory victim exclusion. In addition, they flatter response compensating exclusion, compensation. If findings are replicated, interventions target contribute improvements functioning patient group.

Abstract While the influence of high-status peers on maladaptive behaviors is well-documented, socialization processes prosocial behavior through remain understudied. This study examined whether adolescents’ was influenced by they liked and this effect stronger when were also well-liked their classmates. Three waves data, six months apart, collected among Chilean early adolescents who completed peer nominations ratings at Time 1 ( n = 294, Mage 13.29, SD 0.62; 55.1% male), 2 282), 3 275). Longitudinal social network analyses showed that adopted classmates - especially if these in general. In addition, low likeability more susceptible to than high likeability. The resulted both increases – decreases behavior, depending level prosociality peer. Findings suggest represents an important aspect status may be crucial for understanding significance with respect during adolescence. Pre-Registration: https://osf.io/u4pxm .

Adolescence is characterized by impulsivity but also increased importance of friendships. This study took the novel perspective testing temporal discounting in a fMRI task where choices could affect outcomes for 96 adolescents (aged 10–20-years) themselves and their best friend. Decisions either benefitted (i.e., Self Immediate – Delay' condition) or friend 'Friend Friend condition); juxtaposed rewards friends 'Self conditions). We observed that younger were more impulsive; all participants impulsive when this was associated with an immediate benefit friends. Individual differences analyses revealed activity subgenual anterior cingulate cortex extending ventral striatum relative to delayed reward self. Temporal prefrontal cortex, parietal insula, striatum, only right inferior lobe age. Finally, delay self temporo-parietal junction precuneus. Overall, shows unique role social context adolescents' decision making.

Abstract This study examined whether conformity to high‐ but not low‐status e‐confederates was associated with increases in identification popular peers and subsequent self‐esteem. A sample of 250 adolescents (55.1% male; M age = 12.70 years; 40.3% White, 28.2% Black, 23.4% Hispanic/Latino, 7.7% multiracial/other) participated a well‐established experimental chat room paradigm where they were exposed norms communicated by e‐confederates. Results revealed that for boys the high‐status condition only, girls, positive relation between self‐esteem mediated greater response alignment peers. These findings bolster prior research suggesting may be partly motivated drives valued reference group.

Our research aimed to validate the Prosocialness Scale (PS) among Portuguese adolescents. We sought examine its factorial structure, model invariance across biological sex, reliability, and association with sociodemographic other relevant variables. sample included 454 adolescents aged 13 17 who completed self-report measures assessing psychological flexibility, negative emotions, mental health, prosocial behavior. The PS demonstrated a bifactorial structure comprising latent factor (prosociality) two specific factors (actions feelings). It exhibited satisfactory internal consistency test-retest reliability. Moreover, it showed positive correlations flexibility health while negatively correlating affective states. emerged as valid reliable instrument for gauging behaviors, holding promise application screening tool in educational clinical settings. may also facilitate evaluation of interventions at fostering conduct.

Abstract Adolescents from difficult families (ADF) is a vulnerable group in China, and there have been few studies focused on them at present. To improve the welfare system for groups gain better understanding of situation regarding ADF, it important to identify association between peer factors, family functioning, prosocial behavior among ADF. 1047 adolescents aged 10–15 were selected 21 counties 7 provinces across China based multistage stratified sampling method. Regression analysis moderation analyses performed with factors functioning. Lower quality poorer functioning significantly associated less behavior.
