Environmental pollution drives the decline of species and, as flying mammals, bats can be considered to excellent indicators environmental quality, and analysis genetic biomarkers in these animals provide important parameters for assessment health. This review verifies trends research, particular, use markers study bats, based on a literature search Web Science Scopus platforms. Sixteen publications were identified during search, which focused timeframe between 1945 March 2022, including investigations effects heavy metals, agricultural pesticides, radiation. The studies primarily application genotoxic analysis, comet assay, micronucleus test, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Only 55 bat have been investigated up now, that is, 4% 1447currently-recognized taxa. In general, exposed polluted environments presented higher frequency mutagenic damage than those sampled clean environments. Given importance diverse ecological functions provided by pest control, pollination, seed dispersal, it is increasingly necessary investigate caused health areas with high concentrations contaminants. Although used physiological more two decades, then, many knowledge gaps remain, worldwide, terms number taxa localities investigated.

The Atrato River basin was protected by Colombian law due to anthropogenic impacts, mainly from illegal gold mining, which triggered a critical environmental health problem. In this study we quantified mercury (Hg), methylmercury (MeHg) and arsenic (As) concentrations in aquatic matrices, explored for the first-time nuclear degenerations fish River. median (μg/kg) T-Hg, MeHg As were 195.0, 175.5, 30.0; sediments 165.5, 13.8 3.1; water (ng/L), 154.7 T-Hg 2.1 As. A 38% 10% of exceeded WHO limit protection populations at risk (200 μg Hg/kg) human consumption (500 Hg/kg); while below international standard (1000 μg/kg) all fish. percentage 89.7% highest accumulation observed carnivorous (336.3 ± 245.6 μg/kg, p < 0.05) high consumption, indicating health. water, threshold effect value 12 ng/L, whereas 10,000 established USEPA. On contrary, 33% quality 200 μg/kg Hg. We found that Prochilodus magdalenae species with susceptibility alterations its order, bud (CNB, 3.7 5.4%), micronuclei (MN, 1.6 2.5%) binucleated cells (BC, 2.3%). These results indicate appears be good predictor genotoxicity Fulton's condition factor (K) indicated 31.7% fishes had poor growth condition, suggesting needs monitored restored accordance agreements reached Minamata Convention on Mercury.

Unlike most animals, bats cannot synthesize vitamin C endogenously. Consequently, this must be obtained from the diet. Among bat species, there are several food groups, such as frugivorous, nectarivorous, insectivorous, and hematophagous. In work, we measured compared levels in different organs of four species bats, all collected southern Brazil. When analyzing comparing (regardless organ), no significant differences were observed. However, when species), observed, with highest concentrations heart, followed by liver brain, while lowest concentration was kidneys. Additional Vitamin only observed each organ analyzed according to species/diet. These results indicate a high degree metabolic homeostasis despite marked difference type
