Empathy for pain refers to a simulation of experiences evoked when seeing others in pain. (vicarious pain) responders make up 27% the healthy population, and are divided into two subsets: Sensory/Localized who feel localized physical Affective/General experience diffuse emotional is linked pro-social behavior but can increase mental health symptoms. (1) Responders express significantly higher anxiety somatization than non-responders, with reporting greatest somatic concerns; (2) Sensory/localized show depression non-responders; (3) Two responder groups don't differ non-responders most positive strategies, use more negative strategies (self-blame, rumination, catastrophizing). (4) fully mediates link health. These findings reveal previously unrecognized mediated by increased among responders. Our have particular implications empathic individuals or people often exposed (counselor nurse, etc.).
