Background Recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) and biofeedback (BF) technologies have opened new avenues for breathing training. Breathing training has been suggested as an effective means mental disorders, but it is difficult to master the technique at beginning. VR-BF address problem of breathing, visualizing may facilitate learning This study explores integration VR BF enhance user engagement self-help training, which a multifaceted approach encompassing mindful guided breath counting techniques. Objective We identified 3 common techniques previous studies, namely counting. Despite availability diverse methods, their varying effectiveness underlying neurological mechanisms remain insufficiently understood. investigated using electroencephalography (EEG) indices across multiple modalities this gap. Methods Our automated VR-based environment incorporated real-time EEG, heart rate, signal BF. examined 4 distinct conditions (resting, counting) cross-sectional experiment involving 51 healthy young adults, who were recruited through online forum advertisements billboard posters. In experimental session, participants practiced resting state each 6 minutes. then compared differences terms EEG band power connectivity outflow inflow with repeated measures ANOVA paired t tests. Results The analyses included data participants. Notably, theta, alpha, low-beta, high-beta, gamma bands varied significantly over entire scalp (t ≥1.96, P values <.05). Outflow analysis condition-specific variations delta, (P <.05), while revealed significant all frequency Connectivity flow highlighted predominant influence right frontal, central, parietal brain regions Conclusions provides evidence supporting combined use technologies. findings suggest involvement internal-external attention focus dorsal network different conditions. The federal government of Malaysia recently implemented a nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) to control the COVID-19 outbreak. However, MCO has had negative impact on people's mental well-being. Interventions that can improve health when their movement is restricted are therefore urgently needed. present study investigated an ultra-brief online mindfulness-based intervention using two-arm randomized controlled trial design. A total 161 participants self-reported distress, anxiety, psychological insecurity, and well-being at baseline post-treatment, while 61 them answered same set measures fear scale in follow-up two weeks later. multivariate analysis covariance found reduced insecurity levels measured during post-treatment. Moreover, gender, experience practicing mindfulness, participants' experiences undergoing quarantine were play role post-treatment measures. No significant difference was between treatment. hierarchical multiple regression positively predicted level after controlling for demographic variables. Overall, findings suggest mindfulness potentially useful tool alleviating difficulties

Experimental studies have investigated the effects of physical, psychological and pharmacological stressors (that induce state anxiety) on alcohol outcomes. However, no study has anxiety outcomes, moderating role drinking to cope (DTC) motives, using 7.5% carbon dioxide (CO2) challenge. We aimed investigate relationships between alcohol-related outcomes (primarily choice). We also explored whether DTC motives moderated these relationships. We conducted two experiments CO2 challenge (Studies 1 2) an observational (Study 3) (ns = 42, 60 219, respectively), triangulate findings. In Study 1, experimentally induced increased choice (p < .001, ηp2 .29). This finding was replicated in 2, but effect weaker .076, .06). Furthermore, .013, ηp2= .11). 3 there clear evidence association naturally occurring (b 0.05, p .655), or a 0.01, .852).Experimentally induced, not occurring, increases choice, although levels were lower non-manipulated sample.
