The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), causes significant damage to maize, threatening the food security and livelihood of millions smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Crop diversification has been recommended as an ecologically sustainable FAW control option. However, limited information is available on impacts companion plants their mechanisms against SSA, being a relatively new pest region. Building upon our earlier laboratory study, which elucidated how edible intercrops effectively reduce infestation, we conducted field experiments Kenya assess effectiveness intercropping maize with beans, groundnut, cassava sweet potato under realistic conditions. Growing these consistently resulted fewer eggs, larvae lower plant infestation compared monoculture except cassava. Additionally, experienced low higher crop yield monoculture. Maize growth stages significantly influenced population eggs larvae, peak observed between vegetative V4 V10. Furthermore, intercropped plots exhibited presence predators, such lady beetles earwigs. Correlation analysis revealed correlation temperature, relative humidity, life natural enemies at experimental sites. Therefore, potato, groundnuts can be incorporated into integrated management strategy sustainably real farming These findings are particularly relevant for small-scale beyond, who cannot afford expensive using insecticides.

Wheat is considered to be a strategic crop for achieving food security. Wherefore, one of the current objectives today’s agriculture ensure consistent and sustainable yield this particular while mitigating its environmental footprint. However, along with genetic potential varieties, agricultural practices play key role in ensuring high stable wheat. Under changing climatic conditions, new eco-friendly were adopted wheat farming system recent decades. In review, large number peer-reviewed articles have been screened during last 15 years evaluate some environmentally friendly such as tillage system, biological protection, rotation, intercropping systems, integration resistant varieties yield. The present investigation unveiled that embracing methods holds engender yields, contingent upon normative strategy comprehensively addresses multiple factors. These include intrinsic attributes grown cultivars, plant nutritional parameters, soil agrochemical characteristics, specific conditions. Further in-depth investigations under field conditions are necessary help discernment appropriate techniques can efficaciously optimize different cultivated varieties.

Sustainable agriculture relies on implementing effective, eco-friendly crop protection strategies. However, the adoption of these green tactics by growers is limited their high costs resulting from insufficient integration various components Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In response, we propose a framework within IPM termed Multi-Dimensional Multiple Pests (3MP). Within this framework, spatial dimension considers interactive effects soil-crop-pest-natural enemy networks pest prevalence, while time addresses interactions over season. The 3MP aims to bolster tactics, thereby extending environmental benefits beyond protection.

Abstract As core constituents of healthy diets, fruits are often cultivated in temporally stable and structurally complex ecosystems that harbor high levels biodiversity. However, high-intensity orchard management can lessen the human environmental health benefits fruticulture. In present article, we argue increased emphasis on biological control could contribute to preventative fruit pests, weeds, diseases, resulting pesticide phasedown. Carefully calibrated increase provision ecosystem services by above- belowground biota, improve soil health, store atmospheric carbon. When tactically integrated with agroecological measures, behavior-modifying chemicals, or digital tools, helps conserve pollinator fauna, protect vertebrate communities, vegetation restoration outcomes. Its implementation can, however, give rise scientific social challenges will need be explored. By resolving adoption hurdles for at scale, society enjoy myriad nature-friendly production.

ABSTRACT Insecticides play a crucial role as the primary means of controlling agricultural pests, preventing significant damage to crops. However, misuse these insecticides has led development resistance in insect pests against major classes chemicals. The emergence poses serious threat, especially when alternative options for crop protection are limited farmers. Addressing this challenge and developing new, effective, sustainable pest management approaches is not merely essential but also critically important. In absence solutions, understanding root causes behind insects becomes critical necessity. Without understanding, formulation effective combat remains elusive. With playing vital global food security public health, mitigating paramount.
