Abstract
This
article
presents
a
framework
for
modeling
the
human
mind
during
translation,
based
on
empirical
data.
It
argues
that
three
interrelated
layers
of
mental
processing
operate
simultaneously
which
can
be
detected
in
behavioral
data:
routinized/automated
sequences
reflected
fluent
translation
behavior;
cognitive/reflective
processes
indicated
by
extended
keystroke
pauses;
and
affective/emotional
states,
manifest
distinctive
typing
eye-tracking
patterns.
Drawing
data
from
CRITT
Translation
Process
Research
Database
(TPR-DB),
demonstrates
how
temporal
dynamics
keystrokes
gaze
behavior
linked
to
these
underlying
strata.
The
proposed
embedded
generative
model
is
situated
within
broader
theoretical
contexts,
including
dual-process
theories
Robinson’s
(2023)
ideosomatic
theory
translation.
In
doing
so,
offers
novel
foundation
advancing
developments
Cognitive
Studies.

This
paper
develops
an
outline
for
a
hierarchically
embedded
architecture
of
artificial
agent
that
models
human
translation
processes
based
on
principles
active
inference
(AIF)
and
predictive
processing
(PP).
AIF

posit

mind
constructs
model
environment

guides
behavior
by
continually
generating
integrating
predictions
sensory
input.

strata:
sensorimotor
layer,
cognitive
phenomenal
