By presenting individual Octopus vulgaris with an extractive foraging problem a puzzle box, we examined the possible correlation between behavioural performances (e.g., ease of adaptation to captive conditions, prevalence neophobic and neophilic behaviours, propensity learn individually or by observing conspecifics), biotic (body brain size, age, sex) abiotic (seasonality place origin) factors. We found more animals showing shorter latencies approach box higher probability solving task; also, times solve task were correlated better performance on learning task. However, most octopuses that approached quickly did not reach solution earlier than other individuals, suggesting strong tendency may lead suboptimal at some stages problem-solving process. In addition, seasonal environmental characteristics location origin appear influence rate expression traits central solving. Overall, our analysis provides new insights into associated in invertebrates highlights presence adaptive mechanisms promote population-level changes octopuses’ traits.
