Abstract Animals need to adjust their diel activity patterns fulfil energy and social requirements whilst avoiding predation risk environmental constraints. The chacma baboon ( Papio ursinus ) is a highly adjustable primate occupying variety of habitats in southern Africa, yet little known about its different environments. We used camera trap data collected from 2016 2022 29 sites South Africa Zimbabwe characterise the pattern variations baboons biomes (savanna, nama-karoo, fynbos, forest, thicket grassland). quantified using non-parametric kernel density functions extracted level estimates, times wake up, sleep peaks. Chacma baboons’ levels significantly decrease by approximately 2.84% with unit increase latitude. did not find any significant effect latitude on “wake up” “go sleep” time baboons. Within day, are more active morning afternoon decreased temperature, precipitation throughout but increased predator at night morning. results show that can flexibly local conditions rapidly changing African
