Selective breeding for improved animal resilience is becoming critical to increase the sustainability of production systems. Despite existence a genetic component resilience, has been limited by absence consensus on its definition and quantifying method. In this work, we provide review (i) related concepts such as robustness, resistance, tolerance; (ii) possible methods resilience; (iii) background; (iv) insights about improvement through selective breeding. We suggest that resilient may be defined an individual able cope with perturbation(s) rapidly bounce back normal functioning if altered. Furthermore, since challenging conditions lead trade-offs and, consequently, deviations between basic physiological functions, using these indicators resilience. These also used proxies study determinism background in livestock species. Finally, discuss strategies improve implementation associated markers selection schemes.
