Buildings consume approximately ¾ of the total electricity generated in United States, contributing significantly to fossil fuel emissions. Sustainable and renewable energy production can reduce use, but necessitates storage for reliability order compensate intermittency generation. Energy is critical success developing a sustainable grid because it facilitates higher penetration by mitigating gap between generation demand. This review analyzes recent case studies—numerical field experiments—seen borehole thermal (BTES) space heating domestic hot water capacities, coupled with solar energy. System design, model development, working principle(s) are primary focus this analysis. A synopsis current efforts effectively BTES presented as well. The literature reveals that: (1) most effective when diurnal seasonal used conjunction; (2) no established link exists computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models integrated whole building analysis tools, rather than parameter-fit component models; (3) has less geographical limitations Aquifer Thermal Storage (ATES) lower installation cost scale tanks (4) more often cooling applications.
