Abstract
Objective
This
study
examined
demographic
and
injury-related
predictors
of
cognitive
motor
functional
independence
in
Hispanics
with
TBI
at
years
1,
2,
5,
10
after
hospital
discharge.
Design
Hispanic
participants
(
n
=
1,360)
from
the
Model
Systems
Study
were
included
if
they
had
least
one
Functional
Independence
Measure
(FIM)
Cognitive
Motor
score
any
time
point
(years
or
10).
Hierarchical
linear
modeling
was
used
to
examine
baseline
FIM
trajectories
across
this
period.
Results
showed
a
quadratic
movement
(initial
increase
followed
by
plateau
slight
decrease),
whereas
cubic
increase,
plateau,
then
another
increase).
Higher
predicted
younger
age,
shorter
length
posttraumatic
amnesia
(PTA),
higher
education,
having
experienced
non-violent
mechanism
injury.

Healthy
Aging
Project-Brain
(HAP-B)
is
a
novel
clinical
psychoeducation
offering
developed
to
encourage
engagement
in
activities

with
successful
aging.
HAP-B

sleep,

through
myth-busting,
developing
SMART
goals,
tracking
behavioral

Understanding
risk
for
epilepsy
among
persons
who
sustain
a
mild
(mTBI)
traumatic
brain
injury
(TBI)
is
crucial
