Abstract Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and primary apraxia of speech (PPAOS) are neurodegenerative syndromes characterized by decline in language or speech. There is a growing number studies investigating speech-language interventions for PPA/PPAOS. An updated systematic evaluation the treatment evidence warranted to inform best clinical practice guide future research. We systematically reviewed behavioral this population. Systematically improving voice therapy outcomes is challenging as the clinician actions (i.e., active ingredients) responsible for improved patient functioning targets) are relatively unknown. The theory-driven Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) and standard, voice-specific terminology based on RTSS (RTSS-Voice) may help address this problem. This qualitative study evaluated if RTSS-Voice can describe four evidence-based therapies muscle tension dysphonia without missing critical aspects (content validity) identify commonalities differences across them (criterion validity).

Increasingly, mechanisms of learning are being considered during aphasia rehabilitation. Well-characterized can inform "how" interventions should be administered to maximize the acquisition and retention treatment gains. This systematic scoping review mapped hypothesized action (MoAs) ingredients in three learning-based approaches targeting naming aphasia: errorless (ELess), errorful (EFul), retrieval practice (RP). The rehabilitation specification system was leveraged describe available literature identify knowledge gaps within a unified framework.

Structural priming-speakers' unconscious tendency to reuse previously encountered sentence structures (primes) in future production-facilitates access and learning of grammatical representations persons with aphasia (PWAs). However, it remains unclear which components structural priming tasks are essential consistent lasting effects, a discovery critical for cost-effective clinical translation research. We examined the effects orally repeating versus listening primes on immediate production PWAs controls. In collaborative task, participants took turns experimenter, describing transitive dative event pictures. One group controls listened experimenter's descriptions before they described their own picture, whereas other repeated interlocutor's prime sentences target picture descriptions. Experiment 1, description was elicited immediately after (0-lag, priming). 2, two filler trials (2-lag) intervened between target, examining longer term priming. At both priming, significant were observed groups, as indicated by increased productions passives following passive active double-object than prepositional object sentences. did not reliably consistently enhance magnitude across lags groups. Additionally, PWAs' repetition abilities result higher degrees effects. These findings suggest that opportunities processing syntactic shared prior (prime) current (target) utterances is rather ingredient positive PWAs, while an optional can be removed or modified. https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.28291949.

This study applies implicit structural priming as a novel treatment for sentence production in persons with aphasia (PWA), investigating the learning mechanism(s) that drive robust and enduring recovery. Sixteen PWA 16 controls completed baseline, three training sessions, 1-day 1-week post-testing. Each participant received both alternating single structure prime conditions to test error-based versus repeated activation-based learning. Both groups showed significantly improved maintenance of trained untrained target sentences conditions. While greater gains following training, resulted improvements PWA. These results suggest is an effective aphasia. Additionally, extent different reflected mechanisms underlying access impaired structure, increased base-level activation syntactic supports grammatical encoding more effectively than processing competing structures.

Abstract Objective An emerging approach in surgery is to propose prehabilitation programs strengthen the patient's functional abilities before surgical interventions, thus helping them cope better with its consequences. In drug‐resistant language‐dominant temporal lobe epilepsy (LdTLE), treatment carries a risk of increasing cognitive deficits, notably word‐finding difficulties (anomia) and verbal memory that negatively impact personal, social, occupational activities. this study, we invited 15 LdTLE patients enroll speech language program adapted specifics their difficulties, organized daily during preoperative period. Methods Naming performance (for trained untrained words) was studied twice prehabilitation, 1 week 6 months after surgery. Results were analyzed using generalized linear mixed effects model. We found significant effect on items Postoperatively, showed slight nonsignificant increase compared baseline, whereas decline same comparison. Significance conclude words protected from postsurgical than words. Our research can contribute patient support decision‐making; ultimately, might be considered as part individualized care. These encouraging results lay groundwork for more detailed or powerful examinations protective skills.
