Abstract
Macrocyclic
supramolecular
materials
play
an
important
role
in
encapsulating
anticancer
drugs
to
improve
the
efficiency
and
reduce
toxicity
normal
tissues
through
host‐guest
interactions.
Among
them,
pillar[n]arenes,
as
emerging
class
of
macrocyclic
compounds,
have
attracted
increasing
attention
drug
delivery
drug‐controlled
release
due
their
high
biocompatibility,
excellent
chemistry,
simplicity
modification.
In
this
review,
we
summarize
research
progress
pillar[n]arene‐based
nanodrug
systems
(SNDs)
recent
years
field
tumor
therapy,
including
release,
imaging
diagnostics
therapeutic
modalities.
Furthermore,
opportunities
major
limitations
SNDs
for
therapy
are
discussed.

In
the
context
of
molecular
imaging,
present
work
explores
an
innovative
platform
made
lipid-coated
nanocrystals
as
contrast-enhanced
agent
for
both
ultrasound
imaging
and
sonoluminescence.
At
first,
dynamics
gas
bubbles
generation
cavitation
under
insonation
with
either
pristine
or
(ZnO-Lip)
are
described,
differences
between
two
colloidal
systems
highlighted.
These
ZnO-Lip
show
unprecedented
ability
to
assist
cavitation,
which
is
reflected
in
enhanced
sonoluminescent
light
emission
respect
pure
water.
Highly
defined
sharp
images
cultured
cells
indeed
obtained,
first
time,
when
used.
Furthermore,
were
adopted
a
nanosized
i.e.
echography,
solutions,
then
on
ex-vivo
tissues.
A
prolonged
over
time
bright
effect
observed
adopting
developed
nanoparticles.
their
nanometric
size
potential
targeting
biomolecules
would
allow
ease
extravasation
tissue
even
cell
penetration,
achieving
enhanced-contrast
imaging.
Finally,
stimuli-responsive
therapeutic
applications
against
tumors
overviewed,
aiming
achieve
fully
theranostic
approach.
