Abstract In order to achieve global carbon neutrality in the middle of 21st century, efficient utilization fossil fuels is highly desired diverse energy sectors such as industry, transportation, building well life science. infrastructure, about 75% fuel consumption used provide and maintain heat, leading more than 60% waste heat input discharging environment. Types low-grade recovery technologies are developed increase efficiency. However, due spatial temporal mismatch between need supply thermal energy, much difficult be recovered. Thermal storage (TES) forms sensible, latent thermochemical for relieving mismatched demand. Diverse TES systems recent years with superior features large density, long-term, durable low-cost. These vital expected a low or zero emission society. This paper reviews power generation, science, addition, capture, utilization, also considered reduction. The conclusion perspective raised after discussing specific technologies. study reference achieving zero-carbon future.
