Abstract Phase change heat storage offers a practical solution to address the instability and intermittency of solar energy. However, thermal conductivity medium (phase material) is low, which hinders its large-scale application. Metal foam fins have proven effective in enhancing transfer performance. This study establishes visual phase experimental platform compare release performances four different structures: pure paraffin, fins, metal foam, fin-metal throughout complete melting-solidification cycle. Experimental snapshots real-time data acquisition are utilized obtain interface changes internal temperature variations at time intervals, enabling quantitative comparison melting solidification corresponding responses.
