Ice/snow removal from pavement is important for maintaining the functionality of transportation system in winter. Thermosyphons have been used to extract shallow geothermal energy ice/snow melting (PISM). However, heat extraction thermosyphons underground soil winter leads high thermal imbalance (STI). A novel PISM with reversible (RT) proposed eliminate STI. The working fluid a RT can circulate reversely by micro-pump collect and inject into ground. To investigate its operating performance, model simulation exchange temperature variation was developed validated. Numerical simulations annual operation investigated were performed. results showed that region under 4.5 m at end recovery period 1.9–2.9 °C lower than undisturbed same depth if no storage occurred. could make average computation domain increase 1.66 °C, temperatures pipe outer surface borehole wall all 2.6 period. After storage, most regions exceeded (in central region) or approached initial temperature. analysis indicated effectively STI avoid degradation heating performance.
