Heavy metals in volcanic island soils are key for assessing pollution risks and guiding environmental management strategies. However, research on heavy remains limited. In this study, the concentrations of (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr) surface soil samples from Weizhou Island, China, were determined using ICP-OES, with average 59.18 mg/kg, 119.06 35.63 159.78 respectively. The basalt profiles generally exhibit higher metal content pH values compared to volcaniclastic rock profiles, as accumulates metals. over rocks show significantly than those basalt, indicating spatial variability accumulation. Island notably elevated at both western wharf island’s tail, characterized by lithology, human activities further increasing tail. Land use types influence content, abandoned land lower forest dense vegetation organic matter. Principal component analysis reveals that primarily derived natural parent material, first two principal components comprising 59.77% variance. Ecological risk assessment indicates is considered relatively clean, but Pb presents an ecological hazard, 86.54% sites risk. Overall, mainly come sources lead contamination human-impacted areas require attention.

The contradiction between urban density and sustainable environmental development is increasingly prominent. Although numerous studies have examined the impact of on air pollution at macro level, most previous research micro scale has either neglected socioeconomic factors, failed to analyze heterogeneous effects, or ignored historic neighborhoods where high coexists with density. By considering population, commercial buildings, vegetation, road an integrated social-biophysical perspective was introduced evaluate how influences PM2.5 concentration in a neighborhood. study area divided into 56 units 120 m × 150 granularity, as determined by precision LBS population data. lasso regression quantile were adopted explore main factors affecting their effects. results showed that (1) building important driving factor pollutants. It had strong consistent negative effect concentrations all levels, indicating homogeneity effect. (2) Short-term human mobility represented visiting second influencing pollutants, which significantly positive influence PM2.5. effects suggested areas moderate levels key control (3) Vegetation Patch Shape Index third factor, PM2.5, complex vegetation patterns are not conducive dispersion neighborhoods. Its presented curvilinear trend, peaking 50th quantile, moderately polluted responsive improvements morphology for reduction. These findings can provide effective support improvement quality historical city’s central area.
