Abstract AimThe escalation of toxic heavy metal concentrations in environmental contexts has manifested as a matter significant concern recent times, due to the rapid industrialization driven by demands burgeoning population. This study aims meticulously examine and evaluate bioremediation capabilities bacterial strains that exhibit tolerance metals, which have been isolated from sediment aqueous samples collected at Buckingham Canal, Neelankarai, Chennai. Methods Results The were subjected comprehensive analysis regarding physicochemical characteristics quantification, revealing Zinc displayed most concentration 190.3 ppm, succeeded Manganese 98.8 ppm within samples. water revealed metals sequence Zn>Mn>Pb>Cu>Cr, contrast, exhibited an order Zn>Mn>Cu>Cr>Pb. Among 25 isolates, BCSS04 BCSS17 chosen for subsequent assays their demonstrated all five achieving maximum 2100 lead, 1900 chromium, zinc, Manganese, 1300 copper, respectively. Genetic amplification indicated zntA, pcoA, pbrA, chrA genes yielded fragment lengths 2374 bp, 1791 2396 520 Notably, isolate both pbrA zntA genes, while solely gene, lacking any other resistance genes. results BLAST identified Proteus mirabilis with 99.31% identity, whereas Bacillus paramycoides, presenting 99.85% identity 99% query coverage. ConclusionThe highlights presence zinc being abundant. Two strains, mirabilis and paramycoides, demonstrated high tolerance, exhibiting lead zinc. These findings suggest potential application efforts metal-contaminated environments Significance impact study Ultimately, species present investigation represent promising candidates further exploration endeavors aimed contaminated locations.

Though bioremediation of hazardous petroleum refinery waste (oily sludge) has been practiced for the last few decades, present study proposes to obtain polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)-based bioplastic polymer from it as a valuable byproduct parallel its treatment. In study, nine fast-growing and sodium benzoate degrading bacterial strains belonging genera Achromobacter, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Ochrobactrum, Pannonibacter were found be PHA-positive. The screened cultures showed total hydrocarbon (TPH) degradation in range 31% 91% 1% oily sludge containing medium could accumulate PHA 50% 92%. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) interferogram extracted represented PHA-related functional groups, while proton nuclear magnetic resonance (HNMR) spectra chemical shifts corresponding −CH3 3HB (0.88 ppm) 3HV (1.5 monomers, thus confirming poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) or P(3HB-co-3HV). thermal features P(3HB-co-3HV) such low melting temperature (Tm) % crystallinity (%Xc) are industrially more significant. Ochrobactrum ciceri strain AWIS01 was most efficient organism, showing 0.720 g/L production 90.06% TPH when provided sole source carbon. future, bacteria can used produce sludge.

The biological removal of a mixture soil contaminants, namely, hydrocarbons, is not equally efficient for each compound. Some pollutants can be metabolized by the microbial consortium but also generated again as by-products from others. At end runs, notwithstanding high integral removal, single compounds still present with relevant concentration. This paper presents results achieved in study aerobic degradation diesel oil three mesocosms carried out several months same operative conditions. They differed management: Natural Attenuation (NA), Biostimulated without inoculation (BS), and Inoculation (BS + IN). pollution was calculated measuring residual oil, both an average total amount only at bottom column. overall around 2%, 66%, 72% NA, BS IN, reduced to 0%, 48%, 47%, respectively, if measured bottom. For biostimulated mesocosms, speciation hydrocarbons assess their findings evidence need delve deeper into this issue contaminants.
