Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) is one of the best bismuth-based semiconducting materials because its narrow band gap energy, good visible light absorption, unique physical and chemical characteristics, non-toxic nature. In addition, BiVO4 with different morphologies has been synthesized exhibited excellent photocatalytic efficiency in degradation various organic pollutants, including volatile compounds (VOCs). Nevertheless, commercial scale utilization significantly limited poor separation (faster recombination rate) transport ability photogenerated electron–hole pairs. So, engineering/modifications are performed to enhance their structural, electronic, morphological properties. Thus, this review article aims provide a critical overview advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), nanomaterials, synthesis methodologies, engineering properties through making binary ternary nanocomposites, coupling metals/non-metals metal nanoparticles development Z-scheme type etc., VOCs degradation. future challenges way forward for improving commercial-scale application BiVO4-based nanomaterials also discussed. we hope that valuable resource designing nanocomposites superior visible-light-driven

Abstract Organic pollutants in water bodies pose a serious environmental problem, and photocatalytic technology is an efficient environmentally friendly treatment method. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) widely used photocatalyst, but it suffers from some drawbacks such as narrow light response range, fast charge recombination, low activity. To improve the performance of TiO2, this article reviews preparation methods, evaluation, applications modified TiO2 photocatalysts. Firstly, introduces effects doping modification, semiconductor composite other modification methods on structure properties photocatalysts, well common characterization techniques activity test Secondly, discusses mechanisms photocatalysts degrading dye, pesticide, organic bodies, influencing factors. Finally, summarizes main achievements advantages points out existing problems challenges, prospects for development direction future field.
