A new type of CeO2-modified AgCl catalyst (CeO2/AgCl) was prepared by a one-step method, which efficiently inhibits the recombination photogenerated carriers. During visible-light degradation process, this exhibited excellent and stable performance. It could not only effectively degrade rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO) crystal violet (CV) but also maintain activity under different environmental conditions. In RhB experiment in particular, CeO2/AgCl-30 composite with optimal proportion had rate 5.43 times that pure seawater system 9.17 deionized water condition, while showing stability. Through characterization tests such as XRD, XPS ESR, its structure, elemental composition so on were analyzed. Based results, CeO2/AgCl showed relatively wide light absorption range high photo-induced charge separation efficiency. Meanwhile, it inferred main active species reaction process ·O2⁻ ·OH. Finally, based electronic band an S-scheme heterojunction structure proposed.
