With the progression of research on gas sensors, numerous studies are being carried out tuning metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) for gas-sensing in lieu traditionally synthesized SMOs to attain desired result at lower temperatures and enhance sensor response. Still, no comparative study between MOF-derived has been conducted understand reasons behind such a higher activity. To gain insights into enhanced activity find improved response, was using octahedral Cu-MOF as template fabricate an CuO/NiO (CuO/NiOM) heterostructure (CuO/NiOD) via combustion route. More importantly, our revealed that substitution Ni2+ ions MOF did not destroy porous hierarchical either during calcination process or when were added precursor medium. A surface area (35 m2/g) porosity obtained would have provided sufficient permeability channels sorption NO2 molecules, leading formation maximum concentration active sites. Our results MOF-template-derived CuO/NiOM showed comparatively response S% = 13.9%, with recovery times 18 29 s, respectively, temperature 110 °C compared CuO/NiOD. Further, efficient room-temperature times, p–n heterojunction formed their interface by modifying n-type thermally reduced graphene oxide (rGO) CuO/NiOM. The rGO-CuO/NiOM p-type behavior 23.9% toward 60 ppm room temperature, lowest 10 15 respectively. In addition, also possessed ultralow detection ability up 5 fast recovery.
