Surface Modification of Polydopamine Particles with Polyethyleneimine Brushes for Enhanced Stability and Reduced Fragmentation

Polydopamine
(Pdop)
particles
possess
unique
properties
but
suffer
from
inherent
instability
in
aqueous
environments
due
to
the
gradual
release
of
Pdop
fragments.
This
study
demonstrated
successful
enhancement
stability
and
reduction
fragmentation
through
surface
engineering
strategies.
Specifically,
we
investigated
effects
polyelectrolyte
multilayer
(PEM)
coating
(PE)
brush
grafting.
Our
results
showed
that
PE
grafting,
particularly
with
long-chain
polyethyleneimine
(PEI),
was
more
effective
suppressing
fragment
compared
PEM
coating.
The
L-PEI
grafted
(2.28
chains/nm2)
exhibited
remarkable
across
a
wide
pH
range
(3-9),
inhibition
rates
exceeding
90%
most
cases,
reaching
93%
at
5.
Furthermore,
direct
correlation
between
PEI
grafting
density
(0.64
2.28
rate
observed,
higher
densities
yielding
greater
stability.
These
findings
offer
promising
approach
for
stabilizing
diverse
applications.

The
use
of
photocatalytic
hydrogen
evolution
depends
on
the
availability

efficient
photocatalyst.

nanowires
and
titanium
dioxide
bridged
by
biomimetic
polydopamine
layer
for
production.

into

irradiation,

revealed

photocurrent
