Concentrations of microplastics (MPs) were determined in three commonly used zebrafish housing systems to see if their levels could affect the final results laboratory microplastic-related toxicology tests. MPs have received notable attention last few years, and tests also come fore. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), kept fish systems, are widely as models for studies. Most these contain a significant number parts made different polymers. As usage amortization can erode parts, might appear keeping water or body, which may represent background load possibly influence toxicological To take representative samples from two in-situ filtration techniques, newly developed peristaltic pump-, jet pump-driven method applied. The collected MP particles analyzed with Fourier-transform infrared microscope (detection limit 50 μm), possible origin was investigated. technique more sufficient sampling it had higher recovery, especially smaller size range. Polyester, polyethylene polypropylene most frequently detected polymers examined highest concentration 0.31±0.12 particles/liter (0.22±0.16 μg/liter). These values negligible compared literature data reporting enormously high applied concentrations (104 - 2.21 × 108 particles/liter) during show that some did not originate presumed be external.
