The migration and driving factors of microplastics (MPs), as an emerging pollutant, have been reported in plateau lakes. However, whether MPs can accumulate to extreme degree the local aquatic organisms lakes remains unclear. The escalating impact of human activities has led to the accumulation microplastics (MPs) and heavy metals in marine environments, posing serious threats ecosystems. As essential components oceanic ecosystems, large seaweeds such as Caulerpa lentillifera play a crucial role maintaining ecological balance. This study investigated effects MPs cadmium (Cd) on growth, physiology, biochemistry, Cd C. while elucidating underlying molecular regulatory mechanisms. results demonstrated that exposure alone significantly promoted growth. In contrast, either or combination with suppressed growth by reducing stem stolon length, bud count, weight gain, specific rates. Combined exhibited most pronounced inhibitory effect had negligible combined impaired antioxidant defenses exacerbated oxidative damage; being detrimental. Analysis content revealed increased algae intensifying its toxic effects. Gene expression analysis down-regulated key genes involved photosynthesis, impairing both photosynthetic efficiency energy conversion. further these activated ribosome pathway, supporting ribosomal stability protein synthesis. Additionally, reduced chlorophyll B soluble sugar content, negatively impacting photosynthesis nutrient accumulation. summary, low concentrations but presence hindered it disrupting Furthermore, coexistence intensified Cd. These findings enhance our understanding how seaweed ecosystems provide insights for assessing their risks.
