Natural language processing (NLP) is the study of systems that allow machines to understand, interpret, and generate human language. With advent large models (LLMs), non-technical industries can also harness power NLP. This includes healthcare, specifically surgical care plastic surgery. manuscript an introductory review for surgeons understand current state future potential NLP in patient consultations. The integration into surgery consultations transform both documentation communication. These applications include information extraction, chart summarization, ambient transcription, coding, enhancing understanding, translation, a patient-facing chatbot. We discuss progress toward building these highlight their challenges. has personalize care, enhance satisfaction, improve workflows surgeons. Altogether, radically our model consultation one more patient-centered.

BACKGROUND Inadequate sleep is prevalent among athletes, affecting adaption to training and performance. While education on factors influencing can improve behaviors, Large Language Models (LLMs) may offer a scalable approach provide athletes. OBJECTIVE This study aims i) investigate the quality of recommendations generated by publicly available LLMs, as evaluated experienced raters, ii) determine whether varies with information input granularity. METHODS Two prompts differing granularity (low high) were created for two use cases inserted into ChatGPT-4o (GPT-4o) Google Gemini, resulting in n=8 different recommendations. Experienced raters (n=13) 1-5 Likert-scale, based n=10 criteria derived from recent literature. RESULTS The highest summary rating was achieved GPT-4o using high granularity, ratings >3 (tendency towards good), n=3 equal 3 (neutral), n=2 <3 bad). significantly outperformed Gemini 9 out 10 (P<.001 P=.045). Recommendations received higher than those low across both LLMs (P<0.001 P=.049). CONCLUSIONS Both exhibit limitations, neglecting vital education. Sleep suboptimal, achieving overall quality. However, demonstrated improved recommendation emphasizing need specificity thorough review outputs securely implement AI technologies

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has rapidly expanded, particularly clinical decision-making. Large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 have shown potential various medical applications, including diagnostics treatment planning. However, their efficacy specialized fields like sports surgery physiotherapy remains underexplored. This study aims to compare the performance decision-making within these domains using a structured assessment approach. cross-sectional included 56 professionals specializing physiotherapy. Participants evaluated 10 standardized scenarios generated by 5-point Likert scale. encompassed common musculoskeletal conditions, assessments focused on diagnostic accuracy, appropriateness, surgical technique detailing, rehabilitation plan suitability. Data were collected anonymously via Google Forms. Statistical analysis paired t-tests for direct model comparisons, one-way ANOVA assess across multiple criteria, Cronbach's alpha evaluate inter-rater reliability. significantly outperformed all criteria. Paired t-test results (t(55) = 10.45, p < 0.001) demonstrated that provided more accurate diagnoses, superior plans, detailed recommendations. confirmed higher suitability planning (F(1, 55) 35.22, protocols 32.10, 0.001). values indicated internal consistency (α 0.478) compared 0.234), reflecting reliable performance. demonstrates These findings suggest advanced AI can aid planning, strategies. should function decision-support tool rather than substitute expert judgment. Future studies explore into real-world workflows, validate larger datasets, additional beyond GPT series.
