The Guizhou Caohai Wetland plays a crucial role as wintering site for migratory birds in the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau and ranks among largest spots globally black-necked cranes (Grus nigricollis). To better understand factors influencing waterbird populations ecosystem changes, we conducted comprehensive analysis of historical population variations over 30-year period spanning from 1992 to 2022. current investigation revealed downward trend abundance index curve total number waterbirds during this observation period. Among five guilds examined, dabbling ducks, diving coots (Fulica atra) experienced declines their populations, while wading shorebirds saw an increase. Moreover, observed rise species richness within community time, accompanied by smaller compositional changes. Additionally, findings indicated positive growth trends endangered such common grus) Caohai. Furthermore, increase occurrence persistence rare species, Eurasian spoonbills (Platalea leucorodia), black-faced minor), black storks (Ciconia nigra) These occurrences suggest that wetland environment provides favorable conditions diverse range species. Despite richness, these composition past thirty years are still concern. This study serves fundamental scientific support conservation restoration ecological wetlands Wetland.

Wetlands are among the most important habitats of highly wetland-dependent waterbirds but subject to ongoing habitat loss and degradation owing intensified anthropogenic activities. The scarcity human natural resources makes effective protection an concern. Here, we aimed investigate waterbird methods for Anhui Province, China, a critical stopover wintering area on East Asian-Australasian Flyway that features rich wetland significant degradation. We evaluated status importance 306 identified key environmental influences current gaps using entropy weights method generalized additive modeling. found 73 in which were classified into levels (descending from I V) according discontinuity method. Level II mainly located Yangtze River floodplain IV Huaihe floodplain. gap analysis showed 42 had gaps, accounting 57.53% total area. Waterbird was significantly correlated with elevation, normalized vegetation index, lake area, circumference not distance roads or population density. results this study provide scientific information conservation planning, is crucial maintaining ecosystem functions.

Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake of China, serves as a crucial wintering site for migratory birds in East Asian–Australasian Flyway, where habitat quality is essential maintaining diverse bird populations. Recently, frequent alternation extreme wet years, e.g., 2020, and dry 2022, have inflicted considerable perturbation on local wetland ecology, severely impacting avian habitats. This study employed spatiotemporal fusion method (ESTARFM) to obtain continuous imagery Lake National Nature Reserve during seasons from 2020 2022. Habitat areas were identified based classification water depth constraints. The results indicate that both conditions exacerbated fragmentation shallow habitats showed minor short-term fluctuations response levels but more significantly affected by long-term hydrological trends. These exhibited interannual variability across different affecting their proportion within overall distribution area. demonstrates ability ESTARFM reveal dynamic changes responses conditions, highlighting critical role analysis. outcomes this improve understanding impact habitats, which may help expand knowledge about protection other floodplain wetlands around world.

Abstract Tens of millions livelihoods depend on floodplains, making them especially vulnerable to climate change. However, understanding how annual floods may change and impact local vulnerabilities remains limited. Daily precipitation temperature projections were obtained from five CMIP6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project) General Circulation Models in the Inter‐Sectoral Inter‐Comparison Project (ISIMIP). These input into a coupled hydrological‐hydraulic model Barotse Floodplain, Zambia obtain data flood pulse timing, duration, magnitude. Abstract Gate‐controlled activities in lakes can directly or indirectly influence the assembly of waterbird communities. Shengjin Lake, a Ramsar site, is typical river‐connected and gate‐controlled shallow lake lower middle Yangtze River floodplain China, comprising three sub‐lakes (upper, middle, lower) based on topographical features. We surveyed wintering waterbirds at Lake from October 2022 to March 2023. divided winter water level period into nine phases characteristics changes. By measuring functional diversity, we aimed provide insights differences communities among under different conditions. Multiple linear regression was used analyze relationship between habitat factors diversity. further explored specific traits through combination R‐mode linked Q‐mode trait‐environment correlation matrix (fourth‐corner analyses) explain mechanism underlying community assembly. When fluctuated range 10.43–10.74 m (Huanghai elevation), had significant high heterogeneity, increasing richness dispersion upper lakes, both which significantly differed those lake. Habitat heterogeneity mudflat habitats have positive effects The difference diversity primarily determined foraging strata waterbirds. filtering particular major driving force Overall, suggest that minimum should be regulated 10.43 10.74 m. These findings reasonable suggestions for regulation theoretical basis conserving Lake.

The floodplain lakeshores have pronounced hydrological and topographical gradients, high habitat heterogeneity, abundant food sources, providing suitable habitats for wintering stopping waterbirds. However, certain areas are experiencing ecosystem changes along the lakeshore due to lake development. Huayanghe lakes composed of several shallow lakes, located in middle lower Yangtze River floodplain, which important wetlands waterbirds on East Asian–Australasian Flyway. In recent decades, intensive reclamation aquaculture transformed into an characterized by three distinct wetland types: fishponds, paddy fields. Changes considerable impacts biodiversity, with exhibiting particularly sensitivity wetlands. Therefore, support waterbird community conservation, consequences anthropogenic activities diversity must be elucidated. Integrated studies taxonomic, phylogenetic, functional dissimilarity can provide a multifaceted indication assemblage patterns dynamics communities under disturbance. Accordingly, current study, we examined lake, fishpond, field during periods. taxonomic was significantly fishponds fields than lakes. Phylogenetic also lakes; however no significant differences were observed between community's dissimilarities fishponds. temporal varied significantly, larger fluctuations Specifically, exhibited initial increase subsequent decrease, while showed continuous, gradually declining trend.
