Background The effects of multivitamin exposure on depression among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have not been thoroughly explored. This study aimed to explore the individual vitamin intakes and joint effect intake multiple vitamins (including A, B 1 , 2 6 12 C, D, E, K) risk in participants CKD. Methods A total 3,123 CKD (weighted n = 25,186,480) from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey database 2007 2014 were included. Weighted multivariate logistic regression models utilized analyze associations dietary risk. Additionally, Bayesian kernel machine (BKMR) weighted quantile sum (WQS) performed evaluate nine Results overall prevalence was approximately 11.3% participants. In fully adjusted model, high (OR: 0.54, 95% CI: 0.40–0.74), 0.67, 0.48–0.95), 0.70, 0.49–0.99), D 0.67. 0.48–0.94), K 0.61, 0.44–0.85) associated a reduced likelihood depression. BKMR WQS showed that had significant negative depression, being largest contributor two models. Lastly, reflected mixed 0.82, 0.69–0.99). Conclusion High are low Furthermore, co-exposure is crucial factor contributing this population.

The intricate relationship between nutrition, gut microbiome, and mental health has gained increasing attention. We aimed to determine how vitamin C supplementation improves vitality through the microbiome associated neurological immunological changes. used 16S rRNA sequencing analyze microbiota profiles of participants from our previous trial, in which healthy young adults (20-39 years) with inadequate serum levels (<50 μM) received 500 mg or a placebo twice daily for 4 weeks (vitamin C, n = 21; placebo, 19). examined whether changes correlated previously determined indices, including Stroop test performance, work engagement, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels. Serum concentrations microbial-derived molecules, cytokines, neurotransmitters were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, electrochemiluminescence-based immunoassay, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Monocyte subpopulations peripheral blood quantified fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis. Vitamin increased relative abundance Bacillaceae Anaerotruncus, while decreasing Desulfovibrio, Desulfovibrio reduction correlating performance. Moreover, showing substantial ("responders") demonstrated greater BDNF increases stronger correlations L-DOPA engagement scores than did non-responders. In addition, suppressed inflammatory responses concurrent lipopolysaccharide levels, responders showed decreases IL-10 classical monocyte frequencies conclusion, modulates composition, particularly by reducing abundance, extent improvements decreased inflammation. This study provides insights into as critical dietary intervention, it may modulate its influence on gut-brain-immune axis.

Late-life depression (LLD), a growing public health challenge in aging societies, profoundly impacts physical and mental by exacerbating cognitive decline, functional disability, comorbid chronic diseases. Emerging research highlights vitamin supplementation as promising adjunctive therapy for LLD, targeting its multifactorial pathogenesis involving mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress. Specific vitamins, including B-complex vitamins (B1, B6, B9, B12), D, antioxidants (C, E), demonstrate therapeutic potential through mechanisms ranging from neurotransmitter regulation to function enhancement. For instance, D modulates serotonin synthesis calcium signaling, while B mitigate homocysteine-mediated neurotoxicity support energy metabolism. Antioxidants counteract neural damage linked depressive severity. Clinical studies reveal that deficiency (<20 ng/mL) correlates with elevated risk, combined B-vitamin shows symptom alleviation nutritionally deficient subgroups. However, evidence remains heterogeneous due variability dosing protocols, bioavailability, population-specific factors like comorbidities. Despite evidence, critical gaps persist regarding optimal dosages, bioavailability variations, long-term outcomes elderly populations. This review synthesizes current on vitamin-mediated cellular pathways LLD management, evaluates clinical efficacy across interventions, proposes personalized nutritional strategies optimize outcomes. By integrating mechanistic insights data, this analysis aims guide evidence-based protocols within geriatric care frameworks.

The nutritional management of depression has long been discussed, due to the perceived benefit a product having less side effects than pharmaceutical agents. Candidate nutrients for managing include vitamin D, B vitamins, tryptophan, branch chain amino acids, probiotics, omega-3 fatty folate/methylfolate (also known as B9), and s-adenosylmethionine. This paper provides narrative review three which have significant scientific support depression. A deficiency in each nutrient is associated with depression, interventional studies indicate that correction may provide clinical benefit. We present epidemiological evidence, mechanistic explanation these nutrients. Finally, relevant guidelines are presented their conclusion role
