Abstract Habitual responses towards addiction-related cues play a relevant role in the development and maintenance of addictions. Such automatic may be more likely under stress, as stress has been shown to induce shift from goal-directed habitual behavior. The current study investigated these mechanisms risky gaming Individuals with behavior ( n = 68), established by structured clinical interview, matched control group 67) completed Pavlovian-to-Instrumental Transfer (PIT) paradigm gaming-related rewards. After Pavlovian training, participants underwent (Trier Social Stress Test) or condition before performing instrumental training transfer phase PIT paradigm. To assess behavior, rewards were devalued after half phase. In both groups, enhanced choice reward this effect was reduced, however, not eliminated devaluation. Unexpectedly, did significantly increase responding for aware stimulus-outcome associations, however seemed enhance unaware participants. Our findings underline relevance triggering responses, which undermine attempts change problematic
