Cancer is a significant global health concern, responsible for 16.8% of deaths and 22.8% noncommunicable diseases. Currently, cancer ranks as the second leading cause mortality, with projections indicating its rise to top by 2060. The genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic diversity cells contributes their increased resistance treatment, enhanced survival, propensity metastasis. Conventional treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation often result in damage healthy tissues. Phytochemicals, naturally occurring plant compounds, have gained attention promising therapies due anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties. This chapter delves into recent advances phytochemical research, emphasizing molecular mechanisms innovative approaches incorporating these compounds treatment. Additionally, it explores challenges opportunities leveraging phytochemicals bridge traditional medicine modern oncology, offering hope treatment outcomes improved patient quality life.

Paramignya trimera ( P. (Oliv.) Guillaum), a Vietnamese plant has showed potential anticancer activities. Extracts from the plant's roots, stems, and leaves have shown cytotoxicity against variety of cancer cell lines. The mechanisms behind these actions include triggering apoptosis, blocking invasion, targeting particular signaling pathways. This review collected data available literature on trimera's properties compiled database its isolated compounds. Results indicate that extracts specific compounds, such as coumarins acridones, possess potential. Particularly, acridones exhibited comparable or superior HepG2 MCF-7 cells (IC 50 values 0.43-1.19 μM 0.22-0.40 μM, respectively) compared to doxorubicin 0.28 1.31 μM). Coumarins like 8-geranylumbelliferone ostruthin target IKKβ, while paratrimerin W shows various cancers. Paratrimerin I exhibit due N-methyl, C-4 methoxy, C-5 hydroxy groups in acridone skeleton. However, further research is needed elucidate precise action evaluate safety efficacy trimera-derived compounds clinical settings. identification 146 provides valuable resource for future drug discovery efforts.

Abstract Although cancer chemopreventive agents have been confirmed to effectively protect high-risk populations from invasion or recurrence, only over ten drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, screening potent is crucial reduce constantly increasing incidence mortality rate of cancer. Considering lengthy prevention process, an ideal agent should be nontoxic, inexpensive, oral. Natural compounds become a natural treasure reservoir for chemoprevention because their superior ease availability, cost-effectiveness, safety. The benefits as in various studies. In light this, present review intended fully delineate entire scope chemoprevention, primarily focuses on aspects based compounds, specifically focusing mechanism action prevention, discussing detail how they exert effects affecting classical signaling pathways, immune checkpoints, gut microbiome. We also introduce novel strategies summarize role improving chemotherapy regimens. Furthermore, we describe discovering anticancer with low abundance high activity, revealing broad prospects drug discovery chemoprevention. Moreover, associate precision medicine, discuss challenges encountered Finally, emphasize transformative potential advancing field ability more effective less toxic preventive options oncology.

Abstract The evidence linking high levels of environmental pollutants to chronic degenerative diseases is alarming, with heavy metals (HM) identified as a key factor. Research suggests that certain phytochemicals in the diet can reduce HM and mitigate their adverse health effects.Curcumin (Cur), natural polyphenol, particularly effective protecting against Cadmium (Cd) toxicity. present study demonstrates preincubation low doses Cur (1 μM) differentiated HL-60 K-562 human myeloid cells significantly protect cytotoxicity induced by Cd or H 2 O . reduced increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated inducing protective form autophagy. activated mild oxidative stress triggers expression Nrf2-dependent transcripts, such HO NQO1. potential chemopreventive effects redox have been strengthened observation free unmetabolized detectable inside after 5 minutes treatment, its presence parallels intracellular GSH. These findings suggest supplementation nutraceuticals may represent promising way people living highly polluted areas contaminants.
