Protected areas (PAs) have become one of the most important instruments to preserve nature and, when effective, can significantly reduce human pressure and derived threats biodiversity. Landscape changes driven by anthropogenic activities often have negative impacts on ecosystems, jeopardizing the provision of vital services that sustain biotic elements and wildlife. Predicting effects such transformations is crucial for developing strategies to mitigate ecological damage. This study explores interaction land use habitat quality estimates in Upper Paraguay River Basin Brazil, using InVEST Habitat Quality model estimate spatiotemporal landscape trends evaluate potential impact policies future. Under a business-as-usual scenario 2050, are simulated shaping quality, degradation, rarity as proxies biodiversity conservation. Results show an extensive expansion pastures through deforestation, leading progressive degradation with significant decay predicted observed quality. The index spatial decrease from 0.78 0.57 1989-2050 period. same trend protected areas period 2019-2050, increase 0.80 conservation units, 0.75 0.53 indigenous lands. Abstract Here, we analyze critical changes in environmental law enforcement the Brazilian Amazon between 2000 and 2020. Based on a dataset of indicators, discuss how these explain recent deforestation dynamics. Our analysis also covers legal prosecution process documents militarization 2018 2022. From 2004 to 2018, 43.6 thousand land-use embargoes 84.3 fines were issued, targeting 3.3 million ha land, totaling USD 9.3 billion penalties. Nevertheless, relaxed became spatially more limited, signaling an increasing lack commitment by State enforcing law. The number asset confiscations dropped 59% 55% 2019 2020, respectively. These accompanied marked increase expenditure, suggesting massive efficiency loss. More importantly, creation so-called conciliation hearings centralization processes reduced actual judgments collected 85% decreased ratio lawsuits resulting paid over filed ones from 17 5%. As Brazil gears up crack-down illegal once again, our assessment suggests urgent entry points for policy action.

Abstract Terrestrial protected areas are essential for biodiversity conservation, yet it is not fully understood when and how different types of most effective in achieving specific conservation objectives. O estado do Pará lidera entre as unidades federativas brasileiras mais afetadas pela perda de cobertura florestal, registrando redução aproximadamente 4.162,00 km² em 2022, sendo 24,8% desse total sobre áreas protegidas. Diante disso, esta pesquisa teve por objetivo analisar a importância das conservação federais e terras indígenas frente ao desmatamento na microrregião Parauapebas, identificando os principais locais afetados, fim fornecer insights para fortalecimento políticas ambiental. As informações o uso solo foram obtidas partir Projeto MapBiomas, coleção 08, abrangendo mapeamentos realizados nos anos 1985 2022. Os dados extraídos PRODES/INPE, no recorte temporal 1988 Na elaboração dos mapas, empregou-se software geoprocessamento QGIS 3.16, utilizando-se plugin r.report GRASS medição diferentes classes. Com base resultados, evidenciou-se que, longo 37 anos, houve diminuição 2% extensão formações florestais nas protegidas, enquanto externas sofreram 78%. Tendo vista extensões contíguas às observou-se um aumento significativo atividades mineração, expansão desordenada urbanas e, sobretudo, da área destinada à pastagem, qual agora corresponde 48% terra. Conclui-se que discrepância padrões protegidas regiões circundantes acentua papel primordial desempenhado esses ambientes protegidos preservação florestas.

Abstract Serra do Divisor National Park (SDNP) is a protected area located in the western Brazilian Amazon that threatened by pending bill proposing to downgrade its status and build road would effectively slice park half. Abstract The Amazon has experienced extensive deforestation in recent decades, causing substantial impacts on local and regional climate. However, the precipitation response to this forest cover change remains unclear. Here, we examined biophysical effects of Brazilian dry season using a coupled climate model with embedded water vapor tracers. We find that 3.2% mean reduction occurred Rondônia Mato Grosso during 2002–2015 caused 3.5 ± 0.8% evapotranspiration 5.4 4.4% precipitation. warmed dried lower atmosphere reducing convection Reductions incoming moisture, dominated by reduced moisture inflow mid‐troposphere, accounted for 25% total amplified loss. efficiency explains 84.5% remainder due reductions precipitable water. sourced from accounts 76.9% simulated reduction, remaining 23.1% evapotranspiration.
