The continuing biodiversity losses through agricultural expansion and intensification are dramatic. We argue that a mix of on- off-field measures is needed, overcoming the false dichotomy land sharing-sparing debate. Protected essential for global biodiversity, while spillover between farmed natural key to reducing species extinctions. This particularly effective in landscapes with small diversified fields. Focusing only on protected fails conserve wealth species, which often provide major ecosystem services such as pest control, pollination, cultural benefits. On-field must minimise yield prevent increased demand food imports from biodiversity-rich regions, requiring enforcement high social–ecological land-use standards ensure good life all.

Abstract Context Landscape patterns result from complex social-ecological interactions, such as urban-rural integration which is especially notable in China. However, the impacts of on landscape sustainability remain understudied. Objectives Our objectives were to examine and explore its implications for sustainability. Methods The study area Changsha metropolitan central China, has undergone since 2005. A three-step approach was used (1) assess spatiotemporal dynamics with a multidimensional indicator system, (2) quantify pattern using metrics, (3) main drivers processes involved responsible observed changes through time-fixed effects model. Results findings reveal significant increase level 2005 2020. Concurrently, regional experienced increasing trends characterized by loss fragmentation natural agricultural patches, well heightened connectivity among constructed patches. Urban-rural exerts societal convergence, economic interaction, technology sharing, spatial interlinkage, subsequently influencing (un)sustainability. Conclusions different have varying patterns, intertwined Therefore, integrated governance imperative addressing disadvantages while strategically leveraging advantages various contexts.

Abstract As core constituents of healthy diets, fruits are often cultivated in temporally stable and structurally complex ecosystems that harbor high levels biodiversity. However, high-intensity orchard management can lessen the human environmental health benefits fruticulture. In present article, we argue increased emphasis on biological control could contribute to preventative fruit pests, weeds, diseases, resulting pesticide phasedown. Carefully calibrated increase provision ecosystem services by above- belowground biota, improve soil health, store atmospheric carbon. When tactically integrated with agroecological measures, behavior-modifying chemicals, or digital tools, helps conserve pollinator fauna, protect vertebrate communities, vegetation restoration outcomes. Its implementation can, however, give rise scientific social challenges will need be explored. By resolving adoption hurdles for at scale, society enjoy myriad nature-friendly production.

ABSTRACT The global agri‐food system faces major challenges in meeting the growing demand for food an equitable way while mitigating environmental impacts such as deforestation, soil degradation, and climate change. Over past few decades, voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) have proliferated a potential instrument to promote more sustainable value chains sourcing practices. Although body of impact evaluations on VSS has grown, most studies focus single outcome dimensions, leaving interactions between dimensions underexplored. In this study, we use conceptual framework assess relationships interventions key outcomes across multiple dimensions. Our study focuses economic prosperity, healthy ecosystems, gender equality, security, with particular emphasis identifying trade‐offs synergies these To illustrate identified our framework, present empirical data from three case Ghana, Rwanda, Peru. findings underscore importance balancing fostering advance This contributes ongoing discussions effectiveness promoting by highlighting their impacts, well that must be managed, achieve systems.

Studying the impact of agricultural digitalization (ADT) on carbon emission intensity planting industry (PCI) can help promote sustainable development and realize "dual carbon" goal. Based panel data 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2020, this study uses entropy weight method coefficient measure level ADT PCI, respectively. By using regression analysis method, as well robustness test, heterogeneity spatial spillover effect threshold tests, PCI was examined. The results are follow: (1) is high north low south, north-south divide becoming prominent. (2) significantly reduce verified through test. (3) Regional differences exist with most significant observed northeast region, followed by western central regions. (4) exerts a an inhibitory adjacent provinces. (5) proportion urban population PCI. When ratio crosses 69 %, emissions decreases marginally. Therefore, promoting green low-carbon highly recommended.
