Ecological restoration effectively improves the quality of marine ecological environment and subsequently enhances public's sense enjoyment well‐being. The main objective this paper is to assess preferences regarding attributes quantify extent which meets needs for coastal in Jiaozhou Bay, China. choice experiment (CE) method was used obtain public preferences. To correct potential bias caused by non‐compensatory behavior CE, study utilizes an independent availability logit (IAL) model. results indicate that bay restoration, including nearshore water quality, landscape, space, biodiversity, significantly positively influence residents' utility levels. willingness pay (WTP) improving restoring biological resources, increasing enhancing landscapes 92.02 Chinese Yuan (CNY), 51.80 CNY, 36.60 31.89 CNY per household, respectively. Based on these findings, total WTP Bay 1.54 billion annually. Through comparative analysis estimation between IAL model traditional models, it found helps CE. conclusions can provide data support formulation policies governance as well a reference accuracy validity CE valuation.

Societal Impact Statement Seagrass meadows are a globally important habitat subject to significant loss. As efforts restore these sensitive habitats hampered by their high cost and low levels of reliability, rigorous guidance is required improve effectiveness ensure they cost‐effective. Here, we define 10 golden rules for how can undertake seagrass restoration. We do this considering that restoration be successful, it needs take place with people not against people. The framework present aims direct holistic achieve broad goals people, biodiversity the planet. Summary world has lost proportion its seagrass, although glimmers hope recovery exist, losses degradations continue. First foremost, evidence highlights need put on global pathway net gain. Achieving outcome requires conservation what remains priority, but reaching gain coverage increase at rates unlikely achieved naturally; large‐scale active fill gap. Novel finance mechanisms aligned climate emergency crises increasingly leading larger scale projects. However, no clear exists developing or prioritising approaches. With expensive unreliable, Building from terrestrial marine sources, here, apply ‘10 rules’ concept, first outlined reforestation later applied coral reefs, In doing so, follow international standards ecological view in context, whereby regeneration either planting enhancing facilitating natural recovery. These somewhat differ those reef restoration, principally due relative immaturity science. placed within coupled social‐ecological systems more broadly, multiple pertaining

Functionally extinct ecosystems, those that have been locally eradicated save for remnant individuals, are unlikely to naturally recover over meaningful human time frames. However, ecosystem restoration provides opportunities reverse functional extinction by rapidly addressing the physical and/or biological barriers prevent natural recovery. Here, we assess progress of a native Flat oyster ( Ostrea angasi ) reef in South Australia was from Australian mainland approximately 100 years ago. In absence any reference ecosystems region, assessed relative ecological targets informed combination local rocky and an interim model Australia's sole remaining O. reef, Tasmania. Two half after initiated via construction 14 boulder reefs, observed densities restored adult (192 ± 19 m −2 ; mean 1 SE) exceeded on reef. Communities macroinvertebrates represented 60% biodiversity healthy systems, while functions (e.g. filter feeding) demonstrably increasing. The rate recovery this benthic ecosystem, functionally within several years, demonstrates latent resilience degraded communities capacity effective marine restorations achieve rapid recoveries.

Ecosystem restoration has historically been viewed as an ecological endeavor, but possesses significant, yet largely untapped, potential a catalyst for personal and social transformation. We highlight the opportunity to enhance community resilience by increasing agency collective action countering pervasive perception that we are powerless witnesses environmental decline. In this perspective, take “bright spots” approach successful examples of ecosystem have helped nurture sense place, foster optimism, cultivate stronger more diverse networks. These three individual- community-level capacities lead increased psychosocial resilience, which is key component resilience. Our aim spark discussion research better understand how can transform from technical endeavor practice process through human–nature relationships infused with deliberate meaning human well-being improved. With current calls upscale technologize meet sustainable development goals, cannot lose sight value community-engaged strategy great benefits.

Abstract The Upper Gulf of California (UGC) hosts a rich marine biodiversity. Complex climatic processes generate high biological productivity enabling the use resources in complex socio‐ecological (SEPs). Through literature review, evolution and aggravation SEP over 50 years are analyzed. crisis peaked last decade related to vaquita, an endangered porpoise at blink extinction, illegal catch totoaba, fish species, both endemic. Over first three decades, stakeholders defined positions, while disorder fisheries reduction vaquita population occurred. Corrective actions were implemented during two decades including diversification markets for local fisheries, development fishing technologies, environmental regulations. Most failed, consolidating ill governance aggravated by poaching totoaba drug trafficking. conflict includes (1) transition from community passivity conservation efforts, resistance collective violence against them; (2) design implementation civil organizations government, facilitated disengagement philanthropic donors conservation, support organizations; (3) interventions Mexican Navy coordinated with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society; (4) weakening International Committee Recovery Vaquita international scientific moral authority propose conservation. federal government sector currently discuss scenarios that aim authorize driftnets gillnets, contrasting predominant logic.

This study seeks to scientifically verify the actual effect of a marine ecological restoration project; according problems reflected in assessment, project can be corrected time. constructs an assessment index system from three aspects environment, social, and economic benefits, uses analytic hierarchy process (AHP) determine weight. Taking Pulandian Bay Daling River estuary as examples, application analysis was carried out. The results showed that scored 77.18 ‘good’, while 80.19 ‘excellent’. Both achieved effects improving regional ecosystem service functions, quality life residents, driving development. method adopted not only reflects impact on environment society but also visually displays benefits project, reflecting contribution human well-being, which provide reference for evaluation similar projects.

With the intensification of socioeconomic activities and climate change, land use conflicts are becoming more serious, posing major obstacles to sustainable territorial space. This study conducted research on conflict zoning control with a view contributing new ideas for prevention resolution risks. By analyzing positioning drawing upon fundamental theories, novel paradigm was proposed. An empirical in Gan River Basin Jiangxi Province by applying comprehensive evaluation method geographical detector, basin divided into six types zones according intensity hierarchy ecosystem service values. The results showed that areas intense conflict, low weak accounted 1.57%, 29.16% 69.26% area, respectively. Of areas, 4.42% lower were while only 0.37% right bank middle reaches conflict. driving factor analysis precipitation, population density policy planning had greater influence likely occur interaction precipitation nighttime light index, NDVI. superimposed image revealed at junctions urban cropland forests upper basin, which mainly caused demand expansion spread agricultural production areas. this agreement actual situation Basin, proving proposed is scientific applicable. Moreover, we emphasize can be adapted its application different objects continuously improved response evolution spatial management system. positive significance implementation provides basis further enhancement system governance.
