“Biochar” (BC) is the solid residue recovered from thermal cracking of biomasses in an oxygen-poor atmosphere. Recently, BC has been increasingly explored as a sustainable, inexpensive, and viable alternative to traditional carbonaceous fillers for development polymer-based composites. In fact, exhibits high stability, surface area, electrical conductivity; moreover, its main properties can be properly tuned by controlling conditions production process. Due intriguing characteristics, currently competition with high-performing formulation multi-functional composites, inducing both mechanical properties. Moreover, derived huge variety biomass sources, including post-consumer agricultural wastes, hence providing interesting opportunity toward “zero waste” circular bioeconomy. This work aims at comprehensive overview achievements obtained combining several thermoplastic thermosetting matrices. particular, effect introduction on overall performance different polymer matrices will critically reviewed, highlighting influence differently synthesized final behavior resulting Lastly, comparative perspective other also provided.
