Vermiculite is a clay mineral with unique physical properties that plays significant role in plant cultivation, soil remediation, and solid waste management. In this research, we first explored how vermiculite-to-microbe interactions evolved during sludge–waste mushroom residue co-composting. Vermiculite’s addition had substantial impact on the microbial α β diversities, significantly changed community pattern, strengthened composting nutrient circulation through formation of more specialist generalist species. The characteristics exhibited common co-networks for resisting environment stresses. contributed to enhancing keystone taxa Proteobacteria Actinobacteriota caused ecological function network diversify warming maturation phases, complexity tightness thermophilic phase (with super-generalist species existing). enhanced induced by vermiculite possessed greater capacity facilitate metabolisms carbohydrates amino acids cellulolysis, thereby promoting humification, nitrogen retention final compost maturity. These findings are helpful us understand biological process mechanisms effect additives contribute establishment theoretical framework systems adding practical applications.
