Accelerating the start-up of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) is primary condition for its large-scale application. Anammox with magnetic biochar took shortest time, reducing 15–24 days compared to control blank (CK) and 6–26 pyrolytic biochar. FCS300 (magnetic prepared at 300 °C) could produce highest levels heme c (0.123 μmol/g VSS). The extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in had lowest R ct (12.6 kΩ) a substantially higher electron-transfer capability (ETC). Candidatus jettenia was main anammox bacteria (AnAOB) reactors after successful start-up, distribution spatially variable on suspended sludge biofilm findings implied that might improve electron transfer by shortening time via an shuttle mechanism or direct interspecies transfer.

Nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) seriously threaten the partial nitritation and Anammox (PN/A) process, hindering its mainstream application. Herein, a one-stage PN/A reactor was continuously operated for 245 days under nitrogen loading rate lifted from 0.4 g N/L/d to 0.6 0.8 with removal efficiency of 71 %, 64 41 respectively. Furthermore, NOB species over time identified as Nitrospira_sp._OLB3, exhibiting an increase relative abundance 0.9 % 4.3 %. The hydroxyapatite (HAP) granules gradually lost their microbiological function then aged, leading dominance. Therefore, one "pulse therapy" introduced combined "continuous enhancement" sludge supported by sidestream competitively limit dynamics. treatment's effect persisted around two months. strategy that returning at least 50 impaired HAP granular recultivation could fulfill bottlenecks PN/A.
