Abstract Composting influences heavy metal (HM) speciation by transforming the exchangeable and reducible forms of HMs to oxidisable residual forms, promoting redistribution a more stable form thereby reducing their mobility, leachability, bioavailability. This enhances HM passivation hence environmental contamination possible HM-related toxicity. In this review, we explored impact additives/ameliorants on during composting reduction in bioavailability compost. Using additives improved reduced through several mechanisms. Additives may not reduce total concentration but bioavailable concentration, which is importance risk assessment. However, vermicomposting exceptional, as it reduces concentration. Improving humification microbial activity at heart composting. Overall, conditions substances that promote humification, thermophilic phase, improve community structure enhance Combining suitable depending interest final compost most likely yield best result cum achieve safe product.

Direct land application of conventional compost may cause ecological risks due to the presence heavy metals. To effectively reduce metal bioavailability in compost, a multi-component passivator comprising Candida utilis, sodium humate, zeolite and attapulgite was developed, which showed passivation rates 59.28%, 86.93% 38.95% for zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), ferrum (Fe), respectively, compost. The addition customized not only reduced mobility metals, but also improved quality further increased abundance lignocellulose-degrading beneficial microorganisms Subsequent fertilization results that product fermented with greatly growth Chinese cabbage, significant increases height, weight, root length, total chlorophyll contents 97.63%, 210.13%, 20.42%, 40.38%, respectively. It can be concluded custom-made is expected good additive passivation, high-quality plant growth.
