Industrial activated sludge plants in many sectors, including the dairy industry, face separation problems caused by bulking. Aerobic granular (AGS) could be a solution forming well-settling granules. The key to successful granulation is microbial selection of slow-growing glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) introducing an anaerobic feeding/reaction step. objective current study was investigate impact two slow feeding strategies achieve existing sequencing batch reactors treating real wastewater, only. first strategy consisted 90 min mixed feeding. second combined 45 static and build up substrate gradient. did not affect effluent quality, but significantly impacted morphology, settling properties, community composition. Mixed led filamentous overgrowth Thiothrix species, 45% abundance, deteriorating settling, with volume index (SVI) values 125 mL/g. In contrast, yielded densified SVI below mL/g 35% GAO abundance. conclusion, results show when using simple mode, which benefit industrial application AGS technology.
