Ever since Varela and Maturana proposed the concept of autopoiesis as minimal requirement for life, there has been a focus on cellular systems that erect topological boundaries to separate themselves from their surrounding environment. Here we reconsider whether existence such spatial boundary is strictly necessary self-producing entities. This work presents novel computational model autopoietic system inspired by dendrites molecular dynamics simulations in three-dimensional space. A series simulation experiments where metabolic pathways particular autocatalytic set are successively inhibited until entities could be considered produced. These maintain distinctness an environment containing multiple identical instances without boundary. gives rise which manifests emergent self-selection criteria processes self-production any need unique identifiers. On 25 July 2023, a workshop entitled "Molecular Communication Approaches for Wetware Artificial Life" took place as satellite event at the international conference ALIFE 2023 (The Conference on Life). In this report, we comment by focusing main theme and motivations that led us to develop initiative. particular, highlight how recent progress in synthetic biology study of molecular communication from an engineering perspective can be fruitfully joined provide powerful platform frontier research lines "wetware" Life.
