The education system is increasingly challenged by issues such as school failure, demotivation, and disruptive behaviors, which negatively impact students teachers alike. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have emerged effective tools for addressing these challenges, offering significant benefits in enhancing academic performance, fostering holistic development, promoting psychological well-being. In the classroom, mindfulness supports managing stress, improving emotional regulation, cultivating positive states. For teachers, facilitates development of key qualities serenity, equanimity, mental clarity, enabling them to act role models effectively guide building capacities. This chapter critically reviews existing literature on MBIs, focusing their evidence-based exploring prominent training programs designed educational contexts.

The Thoughtseeds Framework introduces a novel computational approach to modeling thought dynamics in meditative states, conceptualizing thoughtseeds as dynamic attentional agents that integrate information. This hierarchical model, structured nested Markov blankets, comprises three interconnected levels: (i) knowledge domains information repositories, (ii) the Thoughtseed Network where compete, and (iii) meta-cognition regulating awareness. It simulates focused-attention Vipassana meditation via rule-based training informed by empirical neuroscience research on stability neural dynamics. Four states—breath_control, mind_wandering, meta_awareness, redirect_breath—emerge organically from thoughtseed interactions, demonstrating self-organizing Results indicate experts sustain control dominance reinforce focused attention, while novices exhibit frequent, prolonged mind_wandering episodes, reflecting beginner instability. Integrating Global Workspace Theory Intrinsic Ignition Framework, model elucidates how shape unitary experience through meta-awareness, balancing epistemic pragmatic affordances active inference. Synthesizing with phenomenological insights, it provides an embodied perspective cognitive state emergence transitions, offering testable predictions about skill development. framework yields insights into attention regulation, meta-cognitive awareness, emergence, establishing versatile foundation for future diverse practices (e.g., Open Monitoring, Non-Dual Awareness), development across lifespan, clinical applications mindfulness-based interventions disorders, advancing our understanding of nature mind thought.
