Given the increasing prevalence of anxiety and depression, this research aims to identify design features that enhance sense restoration, with goal supporting mental behavioral healthcare facility design. This study employed both screen-based virtual reality (VR) stimuli evaluate perceived restorativeness different interior settings. The key variables analyzed included window view access, content, materiality, room geometry. Thirty-five undergraduate graduate students assessed 16 distinct environments. Findings indicate VR presentations generally produced higher scores compared presentations, though effect varied across stimuli. Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed larger windows consistently correlated in presentation modes. Views water were rated as most restorative, followed by wooded areas. Natural materials significantly more restorative than other materials, particularly presentations. Varied ceiling designs, especially vaulted ceilings, associated evaluations flat pronounced VR. underscores potential technology simulate assess interventions, offering insights into creating effective personalized environments health treatment facilities. findings can inform evidence-based strategies for spaces, processes patient well-being.

Previous research has extensively documented several benefits of interacting with nature. Biophilic design applications aimed at connecting the built environment back to nature have been shown improve employee health, well-being, and productivity workplaces. However, most regarding restorative environments prioritized visual qualities experiences, neglecting other sensory modalities. The significance sense smell in restoration process largely ignored. This investigates combined effects multi-domain experiences within workplace contexts. Specifically, multisensory elements, including visual, olfactory, auditory, relative contributions each cue were examined. A pretest-posttest experimental approach was employed compare outcomes workplaces under two conditions, one lacking natural elements vs another offering Thirty-two participants engaged a virtual reality simulation replicating environmental conditions an actual Sydney, Australia. results revealed that biophilic significantly improved cognitive performance, reduced stress levels, enhanced mood states compared non-biophilic one. There statistically significant association between benefits. Although emerged as primary means creating environments, our suggest plays role process. paper provides empirical evidence on paramount importance olfactory cues nature-based contributing knowledge realms biophilia architectural discourse.

Abstract This study explores the application of biophilic design principles to informal learning spaces in Indonesia, with a focus on marginalized communities. While has been extensively studied formal educational settings, its potential environments remains largely unexplored. research addresses this gap by synthesizing patterns, diverse styles, and contextual considerations adaptability, affordability, simplicity. Through comprehensive literature review, analysis existing consideration various modalities, we developed six key criteria: (1) adaptable, simple spatial layouts; (2) natural sensory-stimulating elements; (3) affordable low-maintenance nature (4) cost-effective materials calming colours textures; (5) seamless indoor-outdoor connections; (6) adjustable artificial lighting airflow. These criteria form framework for creating nature-inspired, learner-centred that support needs while respecting economic constraints. Our findings suggest integrating can enhance experiences communities Indonesia. contributes growing body settings provides practical guidelines implementation resource-limited contexts. Future directions include broader exploration non-formal environments, mixed-methods approaches evaluation, investigation long-term impacts outcomes well-being.
