Arid
central
Asia
(ACA)

dominated

westerlies
and

climate
optimum

Abstract
Fire
activity
reshapes
the
successions
of
forest
and
steppe
ecosystems.
However,
long‐term
fire
history
its
driving
factors
in
Altai
Mountains
remain
poorly
documented
understood.
In
this
study,
we
explore
Holocene
influencing
factors,
based
on
different
sizes
morphologies
charcoals
a
sediment
core
from
Tolbo
Lake
Mountains.
On
millennial‐scale,
was
primarily
regulated
by
moisture‐driven
biomass
availability.
After
∼6000
BP,
increased
precipitation
led
to
higher
enhanced
activity,
with
potentially
human
activities
contribution.
At
centennial‐scale,
lower
frequency
corresponded
cold
climate
events
study.
Ongoing
global
warming
may
increase
risk
fires
region.
