Plateau pika (Ochotona curzoniae) is crucial to soil organic carbon (SOC) storage in the Qinghai–Tibetan plateau (QTP), but its role bacterial SOC metabolisms across different degraded alpine grasslands remains unclear. In this study, we investigated physicochemical properties and composition function of communities control pika-disturbed experiencing degradation levels (undegraded, UDM; lightly, LDM; moderately, MDM severely, SDM). The results demonstrate that (i) primary phyla include Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota Verrucomicrobiota. Soil significantly impact determine influence disturbance. Pika disturbance increases OTUs by 7.5% LDP (p > 0.05) 50.5% MDP < 0.05), while decreases 21.4% SDP 0.05). (ii) downregulates exoenzyme abundance associated with simple complex matter decomposition 9.5% 13.9% LDP, 29.4% 26.3% upregulates these exoenzymes 23.6% 37.9% These changes correspond increase TC declines SDP. (iii) can enhance accumulation through upregulating C cycle pathway ethanol production MDP. However, it pyruvate CO2 conversion SDP, leading negative on storage.
