Because of the rapid emergence antibiotic-resistant bacteria, there is a growing need to discover antibacterial agents. Here, we design and synthesize compound TPA2PyBu that kills both Gram-negative Gram-positive bacteria with an undetectably low drug resistance. Comprehensive analyses reveal antimicrobial activity proceeds via unique dual mechanism by damaging bacterial membrane integrity inducing DNA aggregation. could provide imaging specificity differentiates infection from inflammation cancer. High in vivo treatment efficacy was achieved methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus mouse models. This promising agent suggests combining multiple mechanisms action into single molecule can be effective approach address challenging infections.
